PFIP 2024 LGBTQ+ Workplace Inclusion Report Launch

The Philippine Financial & Inter-Industry Pride (PFIP), in collaboration with the University of the Philippines Center for Women’s and Gender Studies (UPCWGS) and the generous support from the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in the Philippines and S&P Global Foundation, launched the PFIP 2024 LGBTQ+ Workplace Inclusion Report on 30 April 2024 at the School of Statistics Auditorium in UP Diliman.

Participated by over 100 companies from multiple industries and business centers across the Philippines, PFIP’s latest research documents the progress made in lifting the overall experience of Filipino LGBTQ+ working professionals while also identifying opportunity areas for diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) champions and executive allies within the corporate pride community.

Jeyziel Burce completes UPCWGS Internship

Hats off to Jeyziel Mae G. Burce for completing her internship at the University of the Philippines Center for Women’s and Gender Studies (UPCWGS) with awesome achievements! Ms. Burce helped organize successful activities for the meaningful celebration of International Women’s Month. UPCWGS conducts benchmarking activity with Batangas State University

The University of the Philippines Center for Women’s and Gender Studies (UPCWGS) conducted a benchmarking activity with the Gender and Development Advocacies Office (GAD) and the Social Innovation Research Center (SIRC) of the Batangas State University (BatStateU) regarding the development of a specialized research journal for the BatStateU on 9 May 2024 at the UPCWGS Library. Guests from BatStateU include Assoc. Prof. Maria Theresa A. Hernandez, Assistant Director of GAD; Jaika Almira R. Agena, Faculty with Special Assignment of SIRC; and Alexis U. Bondoc, Administrative Assistant of SIRC.

UPCWGS Library receives book donation on Expanded Maternity Leave Law

The University of the Philippines Center for Women’s and Gender Studies (UPCWGS) Library received donated copies of the publication titled “The 2019 Expanded Maternity Leave Law: A Law Whose Progressive Potential Has Yet to Be Fully Realized” by Ma. Victoria R. Raquiza, Duke Thomas G. Dolorical, and Roja Salvador on 6 May 2024. Dr. Raquiza of the UP National College of Public Administration and Governance (NCPAG) personally delivered the books to the UPCWGS.

Book Talk: “Little Drops: Cherished Children of Singapore’s Past” by Dr. Theresa Devasahayam

The University of the Philippines Center for Women’s and Gender Studies (UPCWGS) would like to invite you to a book talk on “Little Drops: Cherished Children of Singapore’s Past” by Dr. Theresa Devasahayam. 

Dr. Devasahayam, a family and gender anthropologist, is the author of several books of which the latest deals with child adoption in Malaya from the 1930s to the early 1970s. Titled “Little Drops: Cherished Children of Singapore’s Past,” the book contains the stories of 15 adoptees in Singapore. It is a compilation of biographies based on historical facts about the pain of separation and the lure of love, and how these themes constantly collide. 

The UPCWGS is honored to host this book talk on the Historical Biographies of Cross-Cultural Adoptees by Dr. Devasahayam, together with other renowned special guests. This will take place on 23 May 2024 (Thursday), 3:00-4:30 PM at the UPCWGS Conference Room.

UPCWGS hands over publications bound for BARMM

The University of the Philippines Center for Women’s and Gender Studies (UPCWGS) visited the UP System Ugnayan ng Pahinungód to hand over copies of the book, “Engendering Inclusive and Transformative Early Childhood Care and Development,” and the “Review of Women’s Studies” journal on 30 April 2024. The UPCWGS publications are to be sent to the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) Ministry of Basic, Higher and Technical Education (MBHTE) for distribution in the region.

UPCWGS meets BARMM MBHTE

This week, the University of the Philippines Center for Women’s and Gender Studies (UPCWGS) met with Mr. Yul Olaya, Chief of the Curriculum and Instructions Division of the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) Ministry of Basic, Higher and Technical Education (MBHTE).

In collaboration with the UP System Ugnayan ng Pahinungód and BARMM MBHTE, our book on “Engendering Inclusive and Transformative Early Childhood Care and Development” along with other UPCWGS publications will soon be physically accessible to our communities in BARMM.

The Kalinga Day Care Center (KDCC) accepts applications for children 2.5 to 4.11 years old (by August 2024). To learn more about the KDCC Learning Program, please check this link: bit.ly/KalingaLearningProgram. 

Year 2024-2025 Grouping 

  • Aruga Group: 2.1-3.0 years old 
  • Lingap Group: 3.1-4.0 years old 
  • Kandili Group: 4.1-4.11 years old 

KDCC Enrollment 

  • Enrollment is on a first come, first served basis 
  • KDCC accepts applicants throughout the year as long as there are available slots (slots are dependent on the slots vacated by previously enrolled children) 

Enrollment Requirements and Procedure for Year 2024-2025 

Requirements (Hard Copies) 

  1. Completed application form 
  1. Two (2) recent 1” x 1” photos of child 
  1. Scanned copy/photo of the original PSA birth certificate of the child 
  1. Medical certificate of child 

For UP Dependents (additional requirement) 

  1. Employees: 2024 Certification of Employment of parent/grandparent from HRDO; Students: Current Certification of Registration and/or copy of Form 5  

Procedure 

  1. Fill out the application form. 
  1. Submit complete requirements (hard copies) starting 2 May 2024. 
  • For those who filled out the online application form, please have it printed 
  1. Wait for enrolment confirmation and Statement of Account (SOA) from KDCC. 
  1. Pay tuition fee. 
  1. Email official receipt (OR) to KDCC email. 

Note: For those who answered the application form for the Year 2023-2024, kindly submit the application form and requirements again. 

The KDCC will not accept incomplete requirements or online submissions of requirements.

Monday to Friday; June 10 - July 5
Morning: 9:00-11:15 AM; Afternoon: 1:00-3:15 PM
Rate: PhP 3,000.00 

Midyear Grouping 

  • Younger Group: 2.5-3.5 years old by August 2024 
  • Older Group: 3.6-4.11 years old by August 2024
