The Review of Women’s Studies (RWS), a refereed journal published by the University of the Philippines Center for Women’s and Gender Studies (UPCWGS), invites submissions for a special issue on Women Filmmakers in the Philippines.
For this upcoming issue of the journal, the editor seeks articles, essays, notes, abridged research, or interviews about different practices of women filmmakers since the beginning of Philippine cinema. - A feminist review of a film by a woman director or scriptwriter
- Genres or styles of women’s filmmaking
- Issues and challenges of women filmmakers while on the job in pre-production, production to post-production stages
- Feminist film history of women filmmakers
- Exploration or formulation of feminist film theory in studying women’s film practices
- Feminist film criticism of a particular film or body of work
- Personal account or ethnographic chronicling of one’s experience as a filmmaker with particular focus on feminist discourse
- Problems and triumphs of feminist film practice
- Funding opportunities (or the lack of) for women filmmakers
- Women’s filmmaking practice and activism
- Women’s filmmaking practice vis-à-vis feminist movement in the Philippines
While the editor prioritizes essays, articles, and transcripts, the editor welcomes proposals for creative works for as long as these are addressing the topics above. You may email the editor prior to submission.
