UPCWGS conducts Seminar for Staff of UP System Administration Offices

The University of the Philippines Center for Women’s and Gender Studies (UPCWGS) conducted a Seminar for the Staff of UP System Administration Offices: Gender Sensitivity and UP Anti-Sexual Harassment Code of 2017 on 7 May 2019 at the College of Social Work and Community Development (CSWCD), UP Diliman. Resource persons were Dr. Nathalie Lourdes Africa-Verceles of the UPCWGS and the Department of Women and Development Studies, CSWCD; Prof. Excelsa C. Tongson of the UPCWGS and the Department of Family Life and Child Development, College of Home Economics (CHE); and Gina Rose L. Chan of the UPCWGS. The seminar aims to promote and strengthen gender sensitivity among the staff of the different UP System offices.

The University of the Philippines Center for Women’s and Gender Studies (UPCWGS) is organizing a seminar-workshop, “Are We Gender Responsive Enough? Making GAD Agenda Work (Seminar-Workshop on Gender-Responsive Planning and Budgeting),” on 17-21 June 2019 at the Institute for Small-Scale Industries (ISSI), UP Diliman for members of the GAD Focal Point System of SUCs, government agencies, LGUs, and GOCCs.

The training fee of P12,500.00 will cover food, materials, kit, and certificate.

Kalinga Day Care Center: Open for Application

The Kalinga Day Care Center (KDCC) is now accepting children 1-5 years old.

Children’s groupings at KDCC:

  • Toddlers’ group (1-2 years old)
  • Younger children’s group (2.1-3.0 years old)
  • Older children’s group 1 (3.1-4.0 years old)
  • Older children’s group 2 (4.1-4.11 years old)

Application requirements:

  • Duly accomplished application form
  • Birth certificate of the child (photocopy)
  • Medical certificate of the child
  • 2 copies 1″x1″ latest ID picture of the child

For UP dependents (additional requirements):

  • Employees: Certificate of employment of parent/guardian
  • Students: Certification of registration and/or copy of Form 5

UPCWGS organizes forum and art exhibit on women empowerment

As part of its celebration of Women’s Month, the University of the Philippines Center for Women’s and Gender Studies (UPCWGS), in partnership with Empowerment Through Art (ETA), organized a forum and art exhibit entitled, “Narratives of Women Artists: When is Empowering Women Truly Empowering,” on 29 March 2019 at the UPCWGS Grounds. Guest speakers were Remy Rikken of the Philippine Educational Theater Association (PETA), Sandra Torrijos of Kababaihan sa Sining at Bagong Sibol na Kamalayan (KASIBULAN), Lea Lim of KASIBULAN, Faye Cura of Gantala Press, and Virgie Garcia of Start 101 Art Gallery. Participating artists were Cecil Tan, Eden Ocampo, Laura Fermo, Riza Zuniga, and Yllang Montenegro.

UPCWGS organizes lecture on women’s health

As part of its celebration of Women’s Month, the University of the Philippines Center for Women’s and Gender Studies (UPCWGS), in cooperation with the UP College of Social Work and Community Development (CSWCD) Doctor of Social Development Program and the University Health Service (UHS) of UP Diliman, organized Kilos 3K: Kababaihan, Kalusugan, Kaunlaran! Women’s Health as a Priority Development Agenda on 28 March 2019 at the UPCWGS Conference Room. Resource persons were Ruth Agnes L. Manalo, Resident Nutritionist and Dietitian of the UHS, UP Diliman; Dr. Ferdiliza Dandah S. Garcia of the UP College of Allied Medical Professions (CAMP), UP Manila; and Dr. Meredith del Pilar-Labarda of the School of Health Sciences, UP Manila.

UPCWGS launches #SafeCampusTo campaign

The University of the Philippines Center for Women’s and Gender Studies (UPCWGS), in cooperation with the UP College of Human Kinetics (CHK), the UP Men’s Basketball Team, and the UP Pep Squad, launched the #SafeCampusTo: UP Fight Against VAW on 23 March 2019 at the Quezon Hall Steps, UP Diliman. The campaign aims to make UP campuses safe from all forms of gender-based violence.

UPCWGS conducts Research Dissemination Forum

As part of its celebration of Women’s Month, the University of the Philippines Center for Women’s and Gender Studies (UPCWGS) conducted a Research Dissemination Forum on 20 March 2019 at the Institute for Small-Scale Industries (ISSI), UP Diliman.

The studies presented during the event, which received the 2018 UPCWGS Research Grant, were “Knowledge on University Policies, Procedures and Resources; Attitudes Towards Sexually Harassing Behaviors; and Experiences on Sexual Harassment of Students in the College of Arts and Sciences, UP Manila” by Prof. Marla A. Endriga of the Department of Biology, College of Arts and Sciences, UP Manila; “Women Resistance, Homemaking and Neoliberalism: The Case of Women Resistance Against the Philippine Jeepney Phase-out Program” by Prof. Chester C. Arcilla of the Department of Social Sciences, College of Arts and Sciences, UP Manila; “Life Stories of Women Political Leaders: Investigating the Meaning of a Counterfactual to the Benchwarmer Phenomenon” by Dr. Raymundo R. Pavo of the Department of Social Sciences, College of Humanities and Social Sciences, UP Mindanao; “Exploring the Spaces of LGBT’s Aging Ls: Narratives on Inclusion-Exclusion of Older/Tiguwang Lesbians in Davao City, Mindanao” by Gina Rose L. Chan of the UPCWGS; “Contemporary Gender Ideologies and Intra-household Relationships of Farming Families in Malaysia and Philippines” by Veronica L. Gregorio of the National University of Singapore; and “Effect of Music Therapy to the Pain and Anxiety Level Experienced During Childbirth Labor” by Kristine Joy L. Ricafort-Acera of the School of Health Sciences, UP Manila.

As part of its celebration of Women’s Month, the University of the Philippines Center for Women’s and Gender Studies (UPCWGS) organized a seminar on Urban Farming for Women and Men of UP on 19 March 2019 at the UPCWGS Conference Room and Courtyard. Resource persons were Lian Janelle DR. Valencia and Jomar O. Tabor of the Agricultural Training Institute, Department of Agriculture. Staff of the various UP Diliman offices and residents of Barangay UP Campus attended the event.
