Gender-Based Violence: The Shadow Pandemic

A Webinar on the Intersectional Impact of Gender-Based Violence in the Time of COVID-19

As part of the 18-Day Campaign to End Violence Against Women and Gender-Based Violence, the University of the Philippines Center for Women’s and Gender Studies (UPCWGS) invites you to Gender-Based Violence: The Shadow Pandemic, a webinar on the intersectional manifestations and impacts of gender-based violence. Join us on Human Rights Day, 10 December 2020 (Thursday), 2:00-4:00 PM via Zoom.

Register for this webinar here: https://bit.ly/3lt5uRs.

As we near nine months of lockdown, it has been made clear that social and gender inequalities that existed before have only been exacerbated. Gender-based violence (GBV), which is rooted in gender inequality and power imbalances caused by socialized gender norms and practices, is a pervasive human rights violation that manifests in many different forms and can be inflicted as physical, sexual, mental, or economic harm. Due to it being ingrained in social norms, it is often unquestioned and therefore difficult to prevent and end. This webinar aims to highlight how GBV manifests in different ways such as domestic violence; online sexual harassment; the lack of access to sexual and reproductive health services; trafficking; early, forced, or child marriage; and state-sponsored violence, among others. It also seeks to feature the work of advocates and organizations who work tirelessly to end this social ill. In emphasizing how this is an insidious social problem, it is hoped that the webinar serves as a platform to advance the call to action to end violence against women and GBV.

Call for Participants: Webinar on Online Sexual Abuse and Exploitation of Children for Teachers and School Administrators

With the numerous extensions of lockdown and community quarantine, child exploitation cases have soared in the Philippines. The shift from the traditional to online learning opens another realm for predators to feast on our children.

As part of the 18-Day Campaign to End Violence Against Women, the University of the Philippines Center for Women’s and Gender Studies (UPCWGS) will hold a webinar on Online Sexual Abuse and Exploitation of Children (OSAEC) for Teachers and School Administrators.

Join us on 2 December 2020 (Wednesday) at 3:00 PM via Zoom and learn more on OSAEC. Certificate of Participation will be provided.

This webinar is open only for teachers and school administrators.
