UPCWGS conducts Seminar on UP Gender Guidelines and UP Anti-Sexual Harassment Code

As part of its staff development, the UP Center for Women’s and Gender Studies (UPCWGS) conducted a Seminar on UP Gender Guidelines and UP Anti-Sexual Harassment Code 2017 on 26 October 2018 at the UPCWGS Conference Room. Atty. Leo D. Battad of the UP College of Law served as resource person for the event, which was attended by the personnel of the UPCWGS and the Kalinga Day Care Center (KDCC).

UPCWGS conducts Training on Gender-Responsive Early Childhood Care and Development Program

The University of the Philippines Center for Women’s and Gender Studies (UPCWGS) conducted a Training on Gender-Responsive Early Childhood Care and Development Program on 22-25 October 2018 at the Balay Kalinaw, UP Diliman. Resource persons were Prof. Excelsa C. Tongson of the UPCWGS and the Department of Family Life and Child Development, College of Home Economics (CHE), UP Diliman; Gina Rose L. Chan of the UPCWGS; Maria Cynthia D. Gealogo, Philippine Representative Representing Children’s Rights, ASEAN Commission on the Promotion and Protection of the Rights of Women and Children (ACWC); Ramon Jericho C. Santos of the Department of Family Life and Child Development, CHE, UP Diliman; Prof. Lorena W. Tengco of the Department of Food Science and Nutrition, CHE, UP Diliman; and Dr. Carolyn I. Sobritchea of the UP Center for Women’s Studies Foundation, Inc. (UPCWSFI). Faculty and personnel from the different UP constituent universities (CUs) and various government agencies participated in the training.

UPCWGS organizes Pet Therapy Day

In celebration of National Mental Health Week, the University of the Philippines Center for Women’s and Gender Studies (UPCWGS) organized emPAWerment: Recognizing the Relevance of Pets to Women’s Mental Health on 17 October 2018 at the UPCWGS grounds. Prof. Beatriz A. Torre of the Department of Psychology, College of Social Sciences and Philosophy (CSSP), UP Diliman served as resource speaker. Pets with their owners, animal lovers, and those who simply want to spend some time with the animals attended the event.

Call for Nominations: Dakila Awards 2018

The University of the Philippines Center for Women’s and Gender Studies (UPCWGS) and the UP Center for Women’s Studies Foundation, Inc. (UPCWSFI) are in search of the most deserving individuals for the Dakila Awards 2018 in recognition of their outstanding contributions to the advancement of gender equality and women’s empowerment.

Public Service Award
Contribution to the advancement of gender equality and women’s empowerment through active engagement in program and service development and delivery.

Academic Award
Contribution to the advancement of gender and women’s studies as a discipline and the integration of gender equality principles in the sciences, arts, and humanities.

Advocacy and Feminist Activism Award
Leadership in challenging misogynist and patriarchal issues in society.

Eligibility:

  1. UP graduate
  2. Has outstanding contribution to any of the award areas
  3. Adheres to and upholds feminist norms and values

[Extended Deadline for Application] Call for Nominations: Angat Bayi Fellows 2018

[NOTE: Angat Bayi is extending the deadline for application for the Angat Bayi Fellows 2018 until 15 October 2018 to give way to the filing of candidacy of officials who would like to join the Fellowship.]

The University of the Philippines Center for Women’s and Gender Studies (UPCWGS) and the UP Center for Women’s Studies Foundation, Inc. (UPCWSFI), with the support of the Government of Canada through its Canada Fund for Local Initiatives (CFLI), and the Office of the Vice President (OVP), are launching the first Angat Bayi Political Empowerment Fellowship for elected women leaders. Angat Bayi recognizes the fundamental value of women’s political participation in achieving women’s empowerment and national development.

We will select 15 deserving Fellows who will attend an intensive and exclusive series of courses designed and customised specifically for them. The courses will run for three (3) consecutive days over a period of three (3) months.

Eligibility:

  1. Must be occupying the post of Mayor, Vice Mayor, or Councilor in any city or municipality in the country and is running for another term, and is running for a higher position;
  2. Nominees must be committed to the following values:
    • feminist leadership
    • inclusive, rights-based, and good governance
    • building and protection of democratic institutions and process, and
    • development of active citizenship among their constituency;
  3. Nominees must agree to their nomination

Fellowship Period:
Course I: 15-17 November 2018
Course II: 24-26 January 2019

Any Filipino citizen can nominate qualified women leaders by submitting the required application materials:

  2. Short essay of the nominee (maximum 1 page) on why the candidate deserves to be an Angat Bayi Fellow
