UPCWGS organizes Discussion on Women’s Status Under the Duterte Administration

As part of its celebration of Women’s Month, the University of the Philippines Center for Women’s and Gender Studies (UPCWGS) organized a Round Table Discussion: Is Change Happening for Women in the Duterte Administration? on 20 March 2018 at the UPCWGS Conference Room. Guest speakers were Dr. Sylvia Estrada-Claudio of the UP College of Social Work and Community Development (CSWCD) and Likhaan Center for Women’s Health, Inc., Dr. Carolyn I. Sobritchea of the UP Asian Center, Primar S. Jardeleza of the Pambansang Kalipunan ng mga Manggagawang Impormal sa Pilipinas (PATAMABA), Inc., Leonora Tiongco-Sunit of the Nationwide Organization of Visually Impaired Empowered Ladies (NOVEL), Inc., public interest lawyer and former Akbayan Partylist representative Atty. Ibarra M. Gutierrez III, Mary Gyknell C. Tangente of GALANG Philippines, and former Commission on Human Rights (CHR) chairperson Loretta Ann “Etta” P. Rosales.

UPCWGS welcomes new director

The University of the Philippines Center for Women’s and Gender Studies (UPCWGS) welcomes Dr. Nathalie Lourdes A. Verceles as its new director starting 1 March 2018. Dr. Verceles is Assistant Professor at the Department of Women and Development Studies (DWDS) in the College of Social Work and Community Development (CSWCD), UP Diliman. She has previously served as Chairperson of the DWDS (2013-2016) and Director of the Doctor of Social Development Program of the CSWCD (2017).

Dr. Verceles earned her Doctorate in Social Development (2014), MA in Women and Development Studies (2003), and BA in Philosophy (1987) from UP Diliman. She also has a BSc (Honours) in Economics (1990) from the University of London. She has published and presented numerous papers on feminist economics.
