In the physical spaces we occupy, we tell the world: we have been here; we will always be here; and we will continue to exist.
This UP Pride, we are once again mapping our experiences and memorializing the places where we found safety, love, and acceptance – places that have genuinely given us a sense of Pride.
What do gender-inclusive spaces look like in classrooms in the arts and letters? How do professors ensure that all gender and sexual identities are well represented and celebrated in the course curricula and instructional materials?
In celebration of UP Pride 2023, the University of the Philippines (UP) Diliman College of Arts and Letters, in partnership with the UP Center for Women’s and Gender Studies (UPCWGS) and UP Pride, will hold a lecture series on Queering the Classrooms in the Arts and Letters. Five faculty members from the College will share their best practices, insights, and experiences in teaching courses of their expertise from a gender-sensitive standpoint: Prof. Eloisa May Hernandez of the Department of Art Studies, Ms. Lakan Umali of the Department of English and Comparative Literature, Asst. Prof. Jeff Roxas of the Department of European Languages, Asst. Prof. Holden Kenneth Alcazaren of the Department of Speech Communication and Theatre Arts, and Asst. Prof. Jose Monfred Sy of the Departamento ng Filipino at Panitikan ng Pilipinas. This will take place on 25 October 2023 (Wednesday), 10:00 AM – 12:00 NN at the UPCWGS Conference Room.
RSVP via this link: https://bit.ly/UPPride2023CAL. Only 35 registered attendees will be accommodated to comply with the safety protocols of the venue.
